Appoint an event manager/coordinator who can devote the extra time to plan.
This task will be time-intensive and take prioritizing. Make sure you have that time!

Find out how many participants you will have for your event and be flexible.
Therefore, make sure to “pad” the number of participants with around 5 extra spots.
(Everyone knows the one person who cannot commit to a function until the day of the event.)

     B.  Community Outreach

     C.  Social / Ice Breaker

Work with your manager or committee to set a budget for your teambuilding event.
This can be based on previous events, the fiscal health of your company and reasonable current costs of such teambuilding events.

Identify goals of your event.
For example enhancing communication between staff and/or departments, improve company
moral or unify a new team or a company after an acquisition in a non-office setting.

THE PLACE

Find a venue that is near your home office or near your conference.
Remember that many hotels where your conference attendees are staying do have accommodations for Houston teambuilding activities along with your meetings and luncheon. (An effective team building is offsite since it takes away the daily distractions at the office.)

If your venue is offsite, see if your conference hotel has a shuttle to transport participants back and forth.
Most hotels or conference centers are more than happy to assist in this service.

Once you have your venue, what about the extras?
What about food? What about drinks? Does everyone like wine? Have a variety of beverages
for non-drinkers as well as that beer connoisseur in your group.

Coordinate with the venue to see if they recommend a catering partner.
Most venues have a regular list of businesses they recommend for any size event.

FINISHING TOUCHES

Another simple reminder…Make it a fun event!
Whether it’s a painting team building event or a “scavenger hunt”. It’s got to be easy enough to
allow your participants time to socialize and break the ice amongst groups that don’t normally
interact due to distance or different departments.

Document your event with photos, videos or social media.
This is a reminder of the fun times your group had…it does promote a “family” atmosphere
in the office!

Remember, relax! You’re part of the team as well.
